To mark the International Day of the African Child, Spring Communities organized a commemorative event in Cibitoke with the beneficiaries of the Youth Running Club, an initiative implemented by Spring Communities with the support of We Run We Rise.

This day was dedicated to promoting children’s rights and the well-being of young people, particularly Burundian children displaced from Gatumba following the floods that affected the region. These disasters resulted in the destruction of numerous homes, the displacement of families, and significant human and social consequences for the affected communities.
As part of this celebration, several sports and recreational activities were organized to provide children with a space for expression, personal growth, and social interaction. These shared experiences strengthened the bonds between participants while fostering their physical and psychosocial development.
The event also included the distribution of running shoes to children in the Youth Running Club, helping to support their participation in sports activities under better conditions. Snacks and refreshments were shared with the participants, reinforcing the spirit of camaraderie and solidarity that characterized the day.
Through the Youth Running Club, Spring Communities uses sport as a tool for protection, social inclusion, and resilience for children and young people from vulnerable backgrounds. This approach aims to create opportunities that foster their well-being, self-confidence, and integration within their communities.
The celebration of the International Day of the African Child provided an opportunity to reaffirm Spring Communities’ commitment to promoting children’s rights and developing initiatives that contribute to the empowerment of the most vulnerable young people.
Together, we continue our efforts to provide children with protective environments and opportunities that enable them to build a safer and more promising future.
