Empowering Burundian Youth: Innovative Education Through Comics
Young people from HI (Hub d’Inspiration) Kamenge, and others in 6 HIs in Bujumbura Mairie and the province of Bujumbura, are exploring topics from the educational tool “INDERO YACU URUHARA RWANJE” developed by Spring Communities in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education and Scientific Research in Burundi and funded by KIYO.
Spring Communities is promoting the use of comics in schools to add on the effort of the government to upgrade the education system. With vibrant illustrations and storytelling, it is easy to capture the attention of young readers, making complex topics more engaging and accessible. Activities such as discussing comic book stories allows us to promote interactive and participatory learning. By using this educational tool presented in the form of a comic book, Spring Communities, with partners, is effectively raising awareness and developing a deeper understanding of different topics among the youth in Burundi, encouraging them to become active participants in sustainable development.
The Nanje Nobaho Canteen
As a food programme existing within the community, the Nanje Nobaho canteen ensures that school children supported by the NANJE NOBAHO Center in Buterere have access to nutritious meals, which positively impact their health and academic performance.
Plus, it helps alleviate food insecurity among families who struggle to afford regular meals (most of them eating once a day). Moreover, it has created a sense of community and provided a safe space for students during lunchtime.

This film follows the inspiring adventure of our incredible participants — five young people welcomed in Burundi and ten young Burundians who traveled to Belgium. Through learning, sharing experiences, and discovering new perspectives, these young leaders strengthened their commitment and grew into true agents of change.
Their impact goes far beyond personal growth. They have sparked change in their communities, families, and schools, planting seeds that are already beginning to flourish.
In their own words: “Go and make a difference.”
Because every spark they ignite lights the way toward a brighter and more sustainable future.
May this wonderful adventure continue to inspire others around the world
Youth Voices for a Healthy Environment

The film beautifully captures their moments of learning, cultural exchange, and collaboration with Belgian youth, as well as the ripple effect of their return; from empowering peers in their schools to launching inspiring community initiatives across Burundi such as the HI Music Contest and the Domeka Youth Camp.
It’s more than a story of travel; it’s a story of transformation, growth, and the power of investing in youth potential.
